Chirnside Community Council - Statement on the Current Situation

  • Due to lack of support, resignations and retirements, the Community Council cannot currently legally function, as a minimum number of officers and member’s is required.
  • This means that the finances, property and functions will be returned to Scottish Borders Council until elections can be held.
  • This creates immediate problems in paying the costs of maintaining the Core Path network with the community mower, as costs cannot be reimbursed to individuals.  Arrangements are being made to deal with this.  The insurance is valid until the end of the year.
  • It also means the other functions, such as liaising with SBC, commenting on planning etc. will not happen.
  • There is interest and determination to continue from the remaining members of the previous Community Council but new members are needed to stand for election, to make the council viable.
  • Below is a summary of the activities the CC has been involved with; leading, commenting, or supporting.
